I’m delighted with my Vulcan. It’s a real Old Testament bit of kit. With a gob like Jonah’s whale, putting black holes to shame and very comfortable to carry fully loaded. I’m not sure whether Berghaus has a team of trolls forging Vulcans deep underneath Mount Tumbledown, but they’ve been doing a bloody good job for years and years and years. Like a silent and slightly disapproving servant, I’m constantly in it’s shadow, and really feel it would be happier if I had a wispy moustache.

As a bit of kit, it applies the Tardis principle to weight: reasonably heavy when empty, but when stuffed full, only marginally more heavy, and so voluminous it makes you feel like the anti-Santa; here to deliver Wagnerian wrath upon the naughty. There are no gimmicks, suspect technologies or flashy bits. It’s like having a Land Rover for your back and it’s bloody brilliant.
