Clif Bars
[CLIF-BAR]
I took some of these on the OMM this year and was really impressed with them. Its all about travelling light and replenishing energy on the hoof. The packet looks a bit flimsy in the picture but was really tough (plasticised) so kept the contents dry (a wet miserable day on the Sat) and stayed intact even bashed about between other kit. I thought I'd prefer the choc chip, but in the wet the peanut butter had a nice warming feeling (reminded me of the peanut butter flavour jelly beans) and I really looked forward to having more of the bar. I probably ate it in thirds, rather than all at once, and rewarded myself by having a bit more at the top of the next ascent. The science says they are good bars, and I enjoyed eating them - tasty, a bit chewy, and didn't sit heavily on my gut. On the hill for both days of the event I ate Clif bars, Shot bloks, and a few haribo sweats and felt good throughout - plenty of energy and good motivation. not sure where to attribute most of the energy, but as a combination they were spot on. The Clif bars also killed that empty stomach feeling that I sometimes get when only eating jelly. Highly recommend.
