Silva Expedition 15 Compass

I've been using the Silva 15 TDCL since 1980. Bought my first one for geological field work, for which the lab's workshop fitted a level bulb onto it. The sighting system with the line in the mirror and over the plate actually doubles your sighting length, which makes your bearings very precise. I suppose this version has a clinometer as well, which I used a lot to measure slopes in various ways Sighting a spot which you estimate as being at about the same height as your eyes avoids running up and down slopes and you can read the clinometer in the mirror when tipping the compass. Whether in my hand or on a kayak spray cover, it's been with me from Scandivania to Spain. Folded out competely it even doubled as a level with the clinometer to install shelves on the walls of field cabins.
