Under Armour Compression Boxer 10"
[TOTR-UAHG]

£19.99

Like the Under Armour ‘Cold Gear’ long sleeved top that I reviewed, the boxers came in a ‘small’ size whereas normally I’d opt for a medium or maybe even a large. Whilst the fit is tight, I didn’t find them to be uncomfortable and was able to wear them for long periods of time without any dramas.

Having never worn anything other than cotton boxers before, it was quite weird putting the UA boxers on. After getting used to them, I got on with them really well. Despite only being able to wear them around town to test them out, they performed well.

Under a pair of jeans, they add extra warmth not found with a pair of cotton boxers. However I did find that my jeans were sagging a bit more than they would with regular boxers. That was just because the Under Armour boxers are so thin – it wasn’t a major problem at all.

Although I’m not a keen cyclist, I imagine that these would make ideal cycling shorts. There aren’t any protruding seams that would rub against you and create discomfort. If pressed, you could even use the Under Armour boxers as swimming trunks! They’re black so won’t turn see-through when wet. As they’re so streamlined, they would probably work quite well if you swim competitively.

As said before, I’ve not yet had a chance to test the boxers on exercise, but I’ve got mates who swear by Under Armour boxers in terms of stopping chafing.

One advantage of the Under Armour boxers over regular boxers that I found was that with the UA ones, I was able to tuck in the ‘Cold Gear’ long sleeved top that I reviewed and it actually stayed tucked in! With regular boxers it came untucked at every opportunity.

The above may have something to do with the fairly substantial waistband that the Under Armour boxers have. Whilst it feels stiff to the touch, I didn’t find it to be a problem when wearing the boxers.

One thing to note is that the boxers aren’t flame-resistant. Therefore, if you work in an area where the risk of becoming very hot very quickly is prevalent then they’re probably not for you.

When I was wearing the boxers, I wore them for nearly three days straight, taking them off only to shower and use the loo. After the three days was up, the boxers, surprisingly, didn’t smell too awful. It was obvious that they’d been worn quite a bit but I could have gotten away with wearing them for a few more days before it became socially unacceptable!

The Under Armour boxers don’t have a built-in fly but I didn’t find this to be an issue when using the loo, it was easy enough to manoeuvre them out of the way and still aim into the toilet!

Overall, the boxers are an excellent product for sports use (I forgot to mention that they’d be excellent under shorts for rugby!) and for use in greens. Buy a pair, you won’t regret it!
